What Is ISO 9001 Certification?
ISO 9001 is the internationally recognized standard for quality management systems. It specifies requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining and continually improving a quality management system (QMS).
ISO 9001 can be applied by organizations of different sizes and across different sectors. Certification provides independent third-party confirmation that an organization's management system has been assessed against the applicable requirements of the standard.
The current edition of ISO 9001 is ISO 9001:2026, published by ISO on 16 September 2026.

SANAS-Accredited ISO 9001 Certification
CertX is a SANAS-accredited certification body for Quality Management Systems under accreditation number C117b. Our current published SANAS scope authorizes CertX to certify organizations to ISO 9001:2015 within specified IAF sectors.
SANAS accreditation provides assurance that the certification body operates against applicable accreditation requirements for management system certification. CertX's accreditation scope specifies the standards and industrial sectors for which certification may be provided under accreditation.
Organizations considering certification should ensure that the proposed certification scope and applicable industry sector fall within CertX's current accredited scope.
The ISO 9001 Certification Process
Begin the certification process by completing the CertX ISO 9001 application questionnaire and providing the required information about your organization, activities, sites and proposed certification scope.
CertX reviews the application information to determine the suitability of the proposed certification activity, including the applicable scope, sites, activities and certification requirements.
Following acceptance of the application, CertX proceeds with audit planning and appointment of the appropriate audit team.
The Stage 1 audit evaluates the organization's readiness for the Stage 2 certification audit.
The audit includes consideration of documented information, site-specific conditions, the organization's understanding of the applicable requirements, the defined certification scope, key processes and objectives, internal audits and management review.
The purpose is to establish whether the organization is sufficiently prepared to proceed to Stage 2.
The Stage 2 audit evaluates the implementation and effectiveness of the organization's quality management system against the applicable requirements of ISO 9001.
The audit includes objective evidence relating to conformity, process performance, applicable statutory, regulatory and contractual requirements, operational controls, internal auditing, management review and management responsibility.
Following completion of the applicable certification activities, CertX conducts a certification decision based on the audit findings and available certification information.
Where the certification decision is positive, CertX issues the applicable certificate and scope of certification.
Following initial certification, surveillance audits are conducted annually at 12-month intervals.
Surveillance audits provide ongoing assessment of the organization's continued conformity and effective implementation of its management system.
Recertification is conducted before the end of the certification cycle to evaluate continued conformity and effectiveness of the quality management system.
The recertification process considers the organization's performance during the previous certification cycle, changes to the management system and the applicable certification requirements.
If allowed by the conformity assessment standard, you may expand the scope of your certification already granted by submitting a new application.
We will, in response to your application for expanding the scope of certification, undertake a review of the application and determine if any additional audit activities are necessary to decide whether or not the extension may be granted. This may be conducted in conjunction with a surveillance audit.
How Long Does ISO 9001 Certification Take?
The time required to achieve ISO 9001 certification depends on factors such as the size and complexity of the organization, the scope of certification, the number of sites, the number of personnel and the maturity of the quality management system.
The certification process generally consists of application and review, Stage 1, Stage 2 and the certification decision. The actual audit duration and overall timeframe are determined according to the applicable certification requirements and the characteristics of the organization.
Organizations that are well prepared and have an effectively implemented quality management system can generally progress through the certification process more efficiently.

ISO 9001 Certification vs ISO 9001 Consulting
ISO 9001 certification and ISO 9001 consulting are different activities.
Certification is an independent conformity assessment in which a certification body evaluates an organization's management system against the applicable requirements of ISO 9001.
Consulting involves providing advice or assistance in developing, implementing or improving a management system.
As an independent certification body, CertX does not provide management system consultancy, internal audit or training services that could compromise the impartiality of the certification process.
